K8 Institut für strategische Ästhetik is starting into the new year with best wishes, a lot of new projects and (finally) a newsletter. Expect to hear from us roughly every two months about the projects we are working on, events we are organizing, and the developments we pursue. And of course we hope to meet face to face at some of these events; who knows, we might decide to develop an idea together or engage in a collaborative venture.
K8 Open Lab
K8 opens the doors of its new project space (Ufergasse 2, 66111 Saarbrücken) between Jan 25 and 27, 10:00 – 15:00 to offer a peek behind the scenes of current technology research projects. Organized as an open lab (rather than a conference format with a fixed schedule), you will have ample opportunity to meet colleagues engaged in technology research or start-ups, take a moment to discuss, reflect, network during a busy festival week. K8 Open Lab is a place for everyone interested in the future of imaging and image processing technologies and their use across different sectors and professional fields. In 2018, core themes include motion capture, lightfield photography, and film as information architecture and interface (archives).
Developed by K8, Open Lab is a format organized in cooperation with the Saarland Ministry for Economics, Labor, Energy and Transportation (MWAEV) and the Festival Max Ophüls Preis.
Resonances – The Long Waves of Utopia
2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the Saarland participates as well – “Resonances” focuses on the franco-german architectural heritage created during the post-war era. The project title is an allusion to Europe 1, a long-wave radio station built in Behrus. Resonances will present key works of French post-war architecture in the state of Saarland as well as the border region. The project does not simply recall this architectural heritage, but will create an interactive exhibition and an online archive to contribute to the international exchange (and collaborative exploration) of this cross-border cultural heritage. Multiple cultural events and research conferences will be organized during the year.
Resonances is a cooperation between Deutscher Werkbund Saar e.V., K8 and the Saarland Ministry for Education and Kultur (MBK), with the support of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
All of the German contributions are presented on the “Sharing Heritage” platform, here is the site of the Resonances project: https://sharingheritage.de/projekte/resonanzen-resonances/
