K8-Newsletter #2

news about two of our projects, which cut across (and bring together) sectors and disciplines, research and prototype development: the cross-sectoral event „Zukunft durch Gestaltung: eine Tisch/Gesellschaft“, held in the Pingusson building in Saarbrücken (the former Ministry of Culture), and the interdisciplinary exhibition series oft the Cultural Parcours / travelling exhibition Frans Masereel in Nancy.

Staatspreise design & architecture 2017
Workshops and award ceremony

March 15, 2018, 10:00 – 23:00

The event encouraged representatives from different sectors to take a fresh look at current design debates in Saarland.

The event focused on the question of quality – understood not simply as a matter of external appearance, of an object’s look, feel, and touch, but in terms of the processes of labor, education, and sourcing behind individual products and services.

20 participants worked on the themes of „care“, „value/creation“, and „remembrance/renewal“ and put the human being as producer and user at the center of ist reflections.

At night, the banquet hall and a 25m table (developed by process designer Hannes Käfer) created a festive atmosphere for the banquet and award ceremony held in honor of the recipients of the Saarland Design Award 2017 and the Saarland „Industrial and Commercial Architecture“ Award 2017. The ball offered multiple opportunities for informal exchange around new ideas and approaches.

The invitation-only event included the awardees and the companies contracting design work resp. architects and builders with their teams, as well as workshop participants, jury members, and representatives of the organizing bodies.
